Ajrak is a block-printed cloth, known for its combination of geometric patterns with vibrant base colours like rich crimson or deep indigo.
Artisans use handcrafted wooden blocks to create the print with resist paste. The fabric is then died multiple times until the desired shade is achieved.
The more dye that’s used, the deeper the final shade. That's why it takes so long, up to 2 weeks, to print fabric of 2-3 meters!
Here at Kaur Kauture, we’re working to keep this age-old tradition alive.
